My name is Makaila McLean, and I am an Equine Nutrition Specialist based in British Columbia, Canada. I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and am currently completing my Masters in Equine Science through the University of Edinburgh, specializing in Equine Nutrition. I am also a Certified Legacy Equine Nutrition Advisor and have completed ENA 1&II. I am committed to ongoing continuing education to ensure my recommendations reflect the latest research and best practices.
I work with horses of all breeds and disciplines, though my personal background is rooted in the sport horse world, particularly eventing and dressage. My areas of interest include performance horses, horses with health concerns, growing horses, seniors, and hard keepers, though I truly enjoy working with horses of all types. My real passion is educating owners on the importance of equine nutrition and the significant impact it can have on health, performance, longevity, and overall well-being. I enjoy helping owners navigate complex nutrition challenges and translating scientific research into practical information that is easy to understand and apply.
My approach is science-based, individualized, and completely brand-independent. I evaluate the entire horse—including forage, supplements, management, workload, health history, and owner goals—to develop practical, balanced nutrition plans. I enjoy streamlining feeding programs where possible and evaluating supplements using the latest available research.I believe nutrition should be both evidence-based and achievable, and I am passionate about helping horse owners understand not just what to feed, but why.
