About
Who is Legacy Equine Nutrition
Hi! I’m Dr. Rachel Mottet
Equine Nutritionist - Scientist - Equestrian
Program Creator & Professor
My equestrian beginnings are humble and began at the age of 5. Imagine a fearless curly haired kid, riding bareback over snow and ice on a free horse through frigid Wisconsin winters. That was me. Complete with frostbit toes that still tingle every time they get too cold. I wouldn’t change a thing…
That horse crazy kid eventually became a horse loving adult who followed this dream through many spills, a failed attempt at professional horse training, many jobs mucking stalls, way too many years in school, and here I am… The proud owner of a personal zoo that makes me laugh every day and keeps me endlessly entertained.
I currently own a farm in Florida that I share with my 3 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 dogs and 1 sulcata tortoise. I ride my gray jumper, Felix, as much as possible and watch my buckskin filly, Anna, run around with her painted boyfriend Caliente. I wake up early every morning to the sound of braying donkeys demanding their breakfast. No one gets to sleep in here, the donkeys make sure of it. The tortoise is likely to be found on my property wandering with her GPS attached securely to his back. These tortoises move a lot quicker than one would guess and I can’t risk losing my mini dinosaur, Tiptoe.

How I got to where I am now
Somewhere along my path I found a passion in all things equine nutrition and I followed it. This passion led me to teaching others how to do something I absolutely love, that being equine nutrition advising. I love what I do, I care deeply about those who come through the program and I am committed to helping others find their way in this space.
Have a look at my CV if you want to learn more about my professional and academic background. A few important details include me teaching at a college and university, working for numerous feed and supplement companies, going to school for waaaay too long, developing products for companies, plus - studying, lecturing and teaching equine nutrition all over the world.
I’m committed to continuing with this. I’m also one of the incredibly lucky people who knows what I professionally love doing most in life… and this is it.
If you want to advise others on equine nutrition, you’ve found the right place and you’ve found someone who enjoys teaching as much as you enjoy learning. You are 100% capable of learning how to advise others on equine nutrition and I can teach you how.
I hope to meet you someday in class as your professor!
